Free Solar Panel Array Calculator

Having trouble figuring out how many solar panels you need for your RV, off-grid configuration, or home backup solution? It can be confusing, very confusing, so we created this calculator to help.

Click this link or the screenshot below to download our simple Excel file calculator and you will be able to determine how many panels you need and if they should be in series, parallel, or in series and parallel.

Here are the steps:

  1. Download the Excel file (no email required).

  2. Fill in only the yellow highlighted fields using stats from your solar generator and solar panels.

  3. The data in the 3 tables to the right will turn green when you are under the maximum limit of your device, and red when you are over.

  4. The “In Series & Parallel” section will help you calculate the best combination, if you decide to go that route.

Remember, you want to get as high as you can in wattage, voltage, and amperage without exceeding your limits.

By the way, there are two tabs/sheets in this spreadsheet - one for arrays with 8 or less panels and one for larger arrays with up to 30 panels.

I hope this is helpful! Enjoy!
